Why Driveless exists
Every editor we know has the same pile: external SSDs with masking-tape labels, a NAS someone’s cousin set up, three copies of a project on three disks and no idea which one is current. Cloud sync apps did not help, because sync means copy, and a 2 TB library does not copy onto a 512 GB MacBook.
Driveless takes the copy out of the loop. Your library lives in the cloud. It shows up in Finder as a normal drive. Files show their real size but take 0 KB on the Mac. When you open one in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut Pro, Driveless streams only the frames you touch — measured at 8 MB to open a 2.69 GB ProRes file, and 0 bytes the second time.
Who makes it
Driveless is made by a small team in Bengaluru, India, founded by Ayyan Sawaz Rahman. Ayyan spent ten years growing things online — social pages built to millions of followers and sold, performance marketing for ecommerce brands in the US and India, then the same work inside corporates — before starting a media house in Bengaluru to promote clients’ work. Driveless is the product those video clients kept asking for.
What is true today
The streaming engine is built and measured on Indian line speeds. Every screen of the Mac app and the web app is designed. The site is live, pricing is set in rupees, and the waitlist is open. The Mac app, billing, permissions and the security work a studio expects are being finished for the India launch in January 2027. US and UK regions come after India. Mac only at launch; software only — the studio cache runs on a Mac the office already owns.

What we believe
Prices should be in rupees, with a GST invoice, and UPI should work. A studio’s footage should be able to stay in India if the client asks. Nothing should be sold per feature. A freelance editor should be able to join a project in ten minutes and see only that project. And the answer to “my disk is full” should never again be “buy another disk”.
